LAURA E. PARTAIN | Journal Entry #1: So I guess you call this a blog?

I have been toying around with the idea of starting a blog on my website for years. Does anyone really read these things? I keep a personal journal for myself and have for years, what could I possibly share publicly on a so called ‘blog’?

Upon further consideration, I thought that perhaps I do have something to genuinely share here with a reader. I do enjoy writing and telling stories, sometimes just as much as I do making photographs. Perhaps an online journal like this could be a way for me to not only share my work, but to talk about it more so than on other platforms. Perhaps I could occasionally use it as a means to celebrate and discuss other artists that I look up to as well.

In other words, the concept of having a blog has some notable perks! I hope this journal can be a place to get inspired or learn something new, not just for a reader, but for myself as well. I hope it not only prompts me to more often share work, but to more diligently research and study as it may relate to anything posted here.

When I was in college, we had to have work up at 8AM several days a week. We constantly worked. Maintaining those hours helped me to develop a work ethic to survive in this game. An upside to social media for me is that it can serve as this ‘digital cork board’, so to speak (minus the scathing critiques occasionally administered by a professor or fellow student. I genuinely miss those). It encourages me to post. I hope this journal does the same, and at the end of the day - I hope we can all get a little joy and inspiration out of it.

love,
